Braised Pineapple with Vanilla Ice Cream (Paris)

2012-10-25 Titillating Thursday: Île Flottante / Floating Island & Guest Post!

Jérôme has sent us a photo of a dessert he enjoyed in a Parisian restaurant. It’s braised pineapple with vanilla ice cream and he assured me it’s as good as it tastes.

My favorite French desert, the Île Flottante (or “Floating Island”) is made with whisked egg whites covered with caramel sauce served chilled on Crème Anglaise (think liquid custard).

I’d like to turn this site into more of a collaborative effort, if at all possible. For that, I need your help!

If, like Jérôme,  you have taken a picture of Paris on your smart phone and would like to show it off to the world, why not do it here? It doesn’t have to be super artistic–there are enough photo sites of Paris as it is–just taken with a mobile phone and that’s all!

Please send a copy of your photograph to Paris.Paul.Prescott@gmail.com and I’ll let you know when it’ll be posted.

Thanks so much for your help!

  1. Nom nom nom! Oh wow, braised pineapple sounds terrific!! And the île flottante looks like an edible cloud of goodness! It’s made of egg whites, isn’t it? On crème anglaise? Oh the French do have desserts down, I must say.

Alas, no “cheesecake” for this Thursday, though!! :D
