What is the one thing these vastly different buildings have in common?
They don’t exist.
The building 145, rue la Fayette is only a front. Literally. The balcony is there, the door is there, but no building waits behind it. The false facade is there only to hide a giant ventilation chimney for the metro.
Check out this view from above that I got off Google Maps.
The second photo is from the Marais. Artist Julien Berthier constructed a false door way on the side of a building. These photos come from his website.
My good friend Krs at Wanna Go To Paris requested these! Remember friends, if you want to see a picture of something particular in Paris, all you have to do it ask!

NEW to Paris By Cell Phone! I am now taking requests! Is there something Parisian you would love to see on your computer screen? Send me your request at Paris.Paul.Prescott@gmail.com and I’ll hook you up!
Or, if you have taken a picture of Paris on your cell phone and would like to show it off to the world, why not do it here? It doesn’t have to be super artistic–there are enough photo sites of Paris as it is–just taken with a mobile phone and that’s all!
Please send a copy of your photograph to Paris.Paul.Prescott@gmail.com and I’ll let you know when it’ll be posted.
Thanks so much for your help!
Please feel free to check out my Paris Inspired fiction here

I like this “building” and the concept of hiding a ventilation chimney.
Wow, that’s a cool idea! Better than having a giant smoking vent filled with gasses open to the public right there on the street….
Thanks, Rodney!
Just today this post got picked up by a real blog, so lots of people have been by here thinking the exact same thing. You, my friend, are the only one brave enough to comment on it.
See you in the streets,
Paris Paul
